Meet the farmers

Kristin Just has been both farming and studying farming in Colorado since 2008.  She has cultivated her fine farming skills at Growing Gardens and Oxford Gardens of Boulder County, as well as by WWOOFing at Enca Farm in the Philippines.  While in college, she worked with a student organization to grow food in the hellstrips of Boulder proper.

Kristin completed degrees in Environmental Policy and Spanish at the University of Colorado and has since taken several graduate-level horticulture courses at Colorado State University.  Kristin’s research led her to believe that we must reconfigure our agricultural system to emphasize absolute soil fertility and to minimize our dependence on external inputs, taking a ‘beyond organic’ approach.   This understanding, coupled with her absolute zeal for farming prompted her to hop the great divide and break ground at Twisted Root Organic Farm in the fall of 2014.

Eric Just‘s beginnings as a farmer originated while participating in a work exchange at Enca Farm in the Philippines.  Hours upon hours of harvesting and de-pulping coffee beans with a old stone wheel did not discourage Eric from the arduous lifestyle that is farming, but instead inspired him to begin Twisted Root with Kristin three years later.

Eric’s experience in construction and greenhouse management have deemed him the irrigation/building expert and field manager.  While he is daydreaming about the fresh lines he will take on his skis come wintertime, Eric is always working hard on a new farm project.
